When you need repairs, you’ll likely need to call a professional. However, repairs and upgrades aren’t the only things you can save money on.
Your home services also include your utility costs, lawn and garden maintenance and even your cable and internet costs.
Calling in a professional when you can’t tackle the job yourself doesn’t have to break the bank. From plumbing, electrical, pools, sprinkler systems and any other home service you may need, you can save money. The best advice is that you get multiple quotes.
I recently had a break in my sewer line. It’s a costly repair that I couldn’t do myself. I was absolutely amazed at the price difference between the different home service professionals. One of my quotes was almost seven thousand dollars. This is money I didn’t have for an unexpected home repair.
Luckily, I decided to urban camp a few days to give myself time for other quotes. My first instinct was to get it fixed and be done with it. I was sure glad I didn’t. I ended up paying $1500 instead of the initial quote of almost seven thousand dollars. This was four quotes later, but I saved thousands.
Believe it or not, you can save money every day on your utility costs. Not just by watching your usage, but also by contacting your utility provider. Often times, you can actually negotiate lower rates with them. They may even have programs you are unaware of that will save you a ton of money.
Make a call to each of your home service utilities including water, gas, electric and trash. Ask about their programs and also talk to your neighbors about their usage. It’s also important to watch your bill for fluctuations. If you notice a large increase, you may have a problem you are unaware of.
For instance, if your water usage has an unusual spike one month it is possible you have a break or leak somewhere. You may need to call the water company to investigate or even a home service professional if you are able to identify the culprit.
Don’t forget your other utilities as well such as cable, internet and cell phones. Each of these home services are generally more than happy to offer you a better deal to keep you as a customer. Simply telling them that you are looking into switching to a new provider will often get you a better rate.
